The sun is shining, your mood is bright, and you are finally ready to Spring Clean! But do you know where to start? Here are a few tips to have a smooth Spring Cleaning day.
Tips for a Smooth Spring Cleaning Day
Before your Spring Cleaning day…
1. Make a plan.
Look at your home with a new perspective. Walk around your house and pay attention to details. Are there disorganized areas that you keep walking by and ignoring? Are there specific items you don’t want to forget to clean?
Make a list, room by room, of everything you want to clean. That way you will be a procrastinator no longer! Start by using this Ultimate Spring Cleaning list to fill out this customizable Spring Cleaning form and make changes/additions to fit your schedule.
2. Gather the right tools.
The right cleaning products and tools can make or break your Spring Cleaning experience. If your bathroom, for example, will be your biggest challenge, find products that are specific to your specific needs. Try a new cleaning tool that you’ve been eying at the store. Buy a huge stack of microfiber and cleaning cloths.
The right cleaning products can cut your cleaning time in half so make sure you get good ones!
You don’t want to be running back and forth across the house because you don’t have the right cleaning product.
After you gather your cleaning tools and products, put them in a large container that you can tote around the house. The container can be something as simple as a 5-gallon bucket you pick up at the home improvement store or it can be a cute caddy. Just make sure it’s practical and can hold all of your materials.
3. Make a playlist.
Getting motivated to clean can be a lot like getting motivated to work out. Music helps! Listen to something upbeat and fun…it will help your Spring Cleaning day fly by.
4. Pick up before you clean.
Picking up isn’t the same as cleaning. You don’t want to waste the majority of your day making up beds, folding laundry, and doing dishes when you should be Spring Cleaning. Try to get the day-to-day activities out of the way prior to your Spring Cleaning session.
On your Spring Cleaning day…
5. Clean top to bottom and side to side.
In order to make the best use of your time, clean top to bottom and side to side. Clean everything in one spot and keep moving. You don’t move back and forth across one room or multiple rooms. Just clean everything in your path and work your way out the door.
6. Keep your tools with you.
As you work from room to room, take your bucket full of cleaning products and tools, broom, vacuum, duster, trash bags and anything else you might need with you. That way you won’t lose valuable time if you need to grab a specialty tool.
7. Use both hands.
Two hands are better than one right? You can spray with one hand and wipe with the other. Use a wet rag with one hand and dry with the other. Pick up stray toys with one hand while holding a box with the other. If you have two hands, move quicker by putting them both to work!
8. Stay Focused.
Focus can sometimes be the hard part. But do everything you can to stay at the task at hand. Get someone to watch your kids, crank up the tunes, try to beat the clock, and stay focused.
