If you’re like me, then you probably have laundry to clean all the time. ALL the time. I usually wash one load every day, but sometimes I slack a little…usually with the bath and kitchen towels.
Eventually I wash, dry and fold them. But between you and me, I’ve started to notice a funky smell on these allegedly “clean” towels of mine. Perhaps it’s the hard water? Perhaps I’ve let them sit in the washing machine a bit too long before switching to the dryer? I know you’ve never done that, right?
Well, I finally decided to refresh my bathroom towels. I guess it’s because I’ve been using this checklist to deep clean the bathroom and wanted to continue my productivity journey.
Here’s what went down.
I gathered all the towels and washcloths (“clean” and dirty alike,) and dumped them in the machine. When the load finished drying, not only did my towels smell fresh, but they are softer than ever!
Here is what I did to freshen up those towels:
- Wash towels in hot water and 1 cup of vinegar. (NO detergent!)
- Rewash (without drying) the wet towels in hot water and ½ cup of baking soda. (Again, NO detergent!)
- Dry in dryer.
This worked wonders on the bathroom towels so I tried it on the kitchen towels as well. Those tend to get musty smelling much more frequently than bath towels in my household. I’m not sure if my level of happiness resulting from these fresh towels is normal, but a laundry victory is a good day in my book!
I think I’m going to add this little task to my cleaning schedule!
