Are you planning to move? Your residence could be moving across the street, to another country, or somewhere in between. Moving from one home to another is a ton of work, no matter the distance.
I’ve moved multiple times in my life so I’ve learned some valuable lessons along the way. Today I want to share some moving tips and tricks to make your move as easy and organized as possible.
It does take work. But the benefits of an organized move far outweigh the costs.
An organized move…
- Helps save on the cost of moving.
- Allows time to streamline and simplify possessions before you pack.
- Makes fragile items more likely to arrive intact.
- Can make unpacking more efficient.
What are the best moving tips and tricks for a smooth and organized move?

Pack in advance.
I don’t know about you, but when I’m in a rush, I tend the throw items in a box in a very disorderly way. And when household possessions aren’t packed away in an organized manner, you use more boxes. More boxes means more expense!
When you plan ahead, you can pack rarely used items first and save the more frequently used items as move day approaches.
Organize your packing.
When it comes to organized packing, choose your supplies wisely.
- Use small boxes for heavy items so you can transport them easier.
- Use larger, more uniform boxes for lighter possessions.
Also, make sure to label each box by room and item. Use color-coded tape or stickers to indicate each room. Then use a large marker to list the contents. If you need to find an item in a hurry, you want to be able to quickly scan the boxes and find what you’re looking for!
Pack fragile items with care.
Fragile items can be cushioned easily with Bounty. Place one or two sheets between plates and scrunch up one Bounty towel inside cups and mugs. You can wrap glass and other delicate items with Bounty sheets to cushion your fragile possessions.
Clear the clutter.
There’s no need to move items that you don’t like, use, or love. What better time to streamline than before, during, and after a move.
Before you move, search your home for broken items and trash. Throw away and recycle as much as possible.
Then, put together a decluttering toolkit and fill it with donation items or possessions that would work well in a garage sale. If you have the time and energy, schedule a moving sale for the next couple of weekends.
As you pack, keep filling your decluttering toolkit with items to donate or sell. Continue this process after you move and begin to unpack to ensure a clutter-free new-to-you home!
“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” – Benjamin Franklin.
When it comes to moving, planning is of the utmost importance. Although you may not completely fail (your belongings will likely get to your new home no matter what), your move will be more successful if you plan appropriately.
From boxes to Bounty, make sure to gather your moving supplies ahead of time. Put together a list of all utility companies to contact. Schedule a moving company ahead of time. Leave time for donation runs and/or garage sales to get rid of clutter. Organizing transportation, storage materials, etc. will help avoid the last minute rush.
Don’t forget the finishing touches.
Finally, as you pack each room, make sure to use Bounty and an all-purpose cleaner to wipe down surface areas. The new homeowners will thank you! Do the same as you move in your new home and you will start your new phase of life in a clean environment.
Good luck on your move! Get prepared, schedule plenty of time, and enjoy the process!
