When you live in a small house, you have to utilize every inch of your space. Whether it’s the kitchen, your child’s toys, or a closet, there are tricks you can use to maximize your space to the fullest extent.
For the past few years, my husband, son and I have shared one closet. Thankfully it’s quite a large closet; but it’s also our only one. Basically, that means any and everything goes in that closet – luggage, tools, wrapping paper, and (oh yeah) clothes!
Since I’m a typical girl who loves clothes and accessories I would so enjoy filling up a closet the size of a bedroom! I’ve had to learn to restrain myself somewhat. But, I’ve also figured out a few tricks to maximize my tiny space in the closet.
Tank-tops and skirts
To save space in my closet I put multiple tank tops on a hanger. You’d be surprised how many tanks can actually fit! When it comes to skirts, I put at least two on each skirt hanger.
Scarves and Belts
If accessories are hidden away, I will forget about them and never wear them. So, I display scarves and belts in an over-the-door shoe rack so I can see them as I pick out clothes.
Boxes and Containers
For items that aren’t used often, boxes are a dream come true. They keep things hidden away but also help utilize height in a closet. It seems like all closets have at least three feet of unused space towards the ceiling. When you have a small closet, that unused space can be transformed into glorious storage!
My husband used to travel often with his job so we stored his big, bulky luggage in our closet (on his side of course!). However, we made the switch to this small luggage from Flip Fold as soon as he changed professions. See how small it is sitting on the shelf? It’s the one in the middle. It expands to 4 large size bags but folds up into one tiny little bag. Seriously, I love this thing because it saves so much space when not in use!
Those are a few of my favorite tips for organizing a small closet. But, I’m sure you have even better ideas, so please share in the comments. I love to learn from you!
