Vinegar is one of my go-to cleaning products. I love using it to clean produce and to remove hard water buildup. So when Four Monks asked me to try their new Cleaning Vinegar, I didn’t hesitate!
The info sheet I received with the Four Monks Cleaning Vinegar included the following information:
“The Four Monks products are made from a proprietary process that reduces the strong vinegar aroma but leave s a clean, crisp scent. Each Four Monks product is non-toxic, ready to-use and has a six percent vinegar concentration for hard-hitting value.”
“Strong vinegar aroma” is one of the hangups I’ve heard from readers over the years. Even though it eventually goes away, they (you?) don’t like to clean with vinegar because of the initial smell. So, I put Four Monks Cleaning Vinegar to the test.
First, I opened the bottles and took a sniff test. I tried the wafting technique that we’re taught in Science class but I couldn’t smell anything. So, I put my nose up to the container and took a big ‘ol sniff.
Surprisingly, the “aroma controlled” vinegar actually controls the vinegar aroma! I could barely smell vinegar.
The Citrus Mint Scent smelled…well, citrus-y and mint-y. It smelled pretty good!
However, once I started spraying and cleaning with Four Monks Cleaning Vinegar, the vinegar smell was apparent. I’m not sure why it wasn’t during the sniff test. I even used the Citrus Mint Scent and the Aroma Controlled in different rooms to test them separately. There was a vinegar smell in both rooms. The smell eventually disappears of course, but it’s something to be aware of if you are sensitive to the smell.
Vinegar smell doesn’t bother me at all though, and I found the other characteristics to be overwhelmingly positive.
The spray trigger is solid! Have you ever sprayed a cleaner and got frustrated because the trigger barely worked? I have! Sometimes getting the cleaner out of the bottle is more work than the actual cleaning! Well, this bottle is sturdy. Admittedly, it was a weird thing to notice, but I did…and I liked it.
The cleaning power is fantastic. Vinegar products are diluted to meet a certain acidity, based on the specific product. Four Monks has 6% acidity, which is 20% stronger than traditional vinegar, but still gentle on surfaces. I could tell. It cleaned just as well as my other cleaners. Four Monks even removed a stain from my carpet.
Four Monks Cleaning Vinegar was just released this Fall, so if you’re interested in a stronger, cleaning vinegar, you can look for it in select grocery stores and mass retailers nationwide. For more information visit, FourMonksClean.com.
