Today is day 5 of our deep clean the kitchen, Spring Cleaning challenge! We’ve covered quite a bit over the last few days. But now it’s time to clean, and I mean really clean, all of your kitchen appliances. Let’s start by deep cleaning the microwave.
Day 5 :: Deep Clean the Microwave
If you wipe out your microwave every time you use it, then it may not be very dirty. But every once in a while, perhaps around the Spring Cleaning season, it’s a good idea to really scrub your microwave. It takes very little effort and will make a big impact in the cleanliness of your kitchen.
To clean your microwave easily:
- Fill a microwave safe cup or bowl with water and microwave on high until the water boils (4-5 minutes). If you’d like to use a bit of natural disinfectant, use half vinegar in place of the water. You can also add a squirt of lemon juice for a fresh scent.
- After the water boils, keep the microwave door closed for a few minutes so the steam can soften the gunk.
- Using a damp rag (feel free to use some of the warm water from the bowl) to clean the microwave. For extra tough spots, a kitchen scraper works wonders!
- Wash the glass tray in the sink, or just stick in in the dishwasher to let it do the work for you!
To clean your microwave filter:
I clean all kinds of random areas in the kitchen, but I have to admit that I have never thought to clean a microwave filter until recently. In fact, I didn’t even know a microwave filter existed until a “clean microwave filter” sign on the microwave in my current house flashed on the screen.
I’m always up for a good challenge so I got to researching and gave cleaning it a try. It was either that or just replace the filter!
