I don’t know about you, but I have a few pairs of socks that are past their prime. So much so that my husband pokes fun at me! If I don’t deliberately rotate those socks full of holes out of my drawer, it will never happen.
The same is true for the socks my kids have grown out of. They are growing like weeds!
Maybe you have a similar situation. If so, take a few minutes today to streamline and declutter you socks. If you have extra time, take a look at your other undergarments too 🙂
If you got kids and if it’s really hard for you to get rid of those old socks, you can use “dot system” with each pair. For example, take a marker of your choice (permanent preferably) and put one dot on the underside of your oldest child’s socks, two for the the next child, and so on. This way, you will be able to quickly see which socks belong to which child. And if you hand socks down (from the first to the second one, for instance), then you can simply add a dot.
But of course, you wouldn’t want to pass it all to the next, right? In this case, if the socks doesn’t seem to be of any good news to anyone, you can always recycle them. Probably, you can turn it into a small cleaning rag, or for a school project perhaps.
Below are a few suggestions:
- You can use it as a personal accessory: if the cold weather is coming, you can reuse those old socks into fingerless gloves. Simply cut a hole in the heel and cut off the toe of the sock. Stick your fingers out the toes and your thumb in the heel.
- You can use it as a small helper around the house: you can use it to polish shoes or to wash your car. You can also use it as a dust rag by simply wearing those good old socks into your hands. For more fun, you can make a hard-to-reach cleaning stick, you may use an old ruler (the longer the better) and slip the sock in the end, then attach with an elastic band.
For what its worth and you simply don’t want to go through all these. You can simply donate, believe it or not, there’s a site for that (The Mismatched Sock).
After today, I hope you were able to declutter socks and got it all covered!
Your assignment for today:
By the way, I’d love to see what you declutter today. Upload a pic to instagram and tag me in it (instagram.com/idreamofclean) so I can see!
