31 Days to Make Cleaning a Habit – Habit 27
Empty Your Command Center or Inbox Daily
It’s way too easy to let mail pile up; to allow our purse to be the collection point for reminders and receipts; to forget the papers in backpacks need to be signed. That’s why yesterday we discussed the benefits of collecting action items in one area of our home.
You can call it a command center, an inbox, or even make up a creative name. But, whatever it’s called, it needs to be used to the fullest.
That’s why habit 26 is to collect action items daily. However, to prevent the collection area from becoming too large or overwhelming, habit 27 is just as important…we need to EMPTY the inbox daily.
Set aside a few minutes each day to go through the pile. Start at the top and complete the action that’s needed.
- If it’s an appointment card, put the reminder on your calendar.
- If it’s a paper that needs to be signed, sign it and distribute.
- If it’s a bill that needs to be paid, pay it.
- If it’s a phone call that needs to be returned, make the call or put a note on your calendar to call at the appropriate time.
Keep going until the inbox is empty. You’ll be on top of things and know you’ve accomplished what needed to be done. Plus, you’ll probably have a sense of relief and be ready to relax for the night!
It could be hard habit to begin, but once it’s part of your life, you’ll never go back!
How often do you empty your inbox?
