31 Days to Make Cleaning a Habit – Habit 16
Find or Create a Permanent Home for Everything
Are there items scattered around your house that just don’t seem to have a place? When you need them, you can’t find them. When you don’t want them around, you can’t figure out where to hide them.
I have several items that need to find a home…either in my home or someone else’s!
This may seem like a silly example, but I have no idea where to put my shoes and purse when I walk in the door. I prefer for both to be right by the door so I can grab and go. That means they just sit there looking like someone forgot to put their stuff away. My goal is to get a couple of hooks to hang purses, backpacks, etc. and some kind of shelf/basket to put shoes. But, alas, I’ve been putting it off.
We also have 14 million (okay, maybe more like 25) picture frames that don’t have pictures or a place on the wall. They’re currently in a decorative box so no one is the wiser. But, they really need to become useful in our home or be given to someone who will love them.
The habit for today is to scan our homes daily for items that need to find a permanent place so they can be useful and found easily. Determine if you can easily create a spot or if you need to construct/purchase/find something that will make it possible.
If those options aren’t feasible, determine if you really need the item at all. If not, purge!
Is there anything that you can think of top of mind that needs a permanent spot in your home?
