31 Days to Make Cleaning a Habit – Habit 28
Clear Off Your Desk Daily
The habit for today is very similar to yesterday’s task but it’s also distinctly different.
Action item completion is one thing, but what about material that may not require immediate “action”?
If you have a desk, office, or other work area in your home, it’s quite possibly piled up with what can only be described as stuff: Pens, paper, folders, reference material, supplies, knick-knacks, books, boxes…you name it. You may need (or at least want) to keep those items but they’re taking over your work area. Perhaps so much so that you don’t really have a “work” area at all!
As someone who is very comfortable with messy, having a desk that’s a disaster isn’t a big deal to me. However, when I implement habit 28, it actually increases my productivity the following day. So I’m assuming it will do the same for you.
Benefits of Clearing Your Desk
Cleaning off your desk or work area daily allows you to at least glance at projects that need to be completed. It gives you the opportunity to file a few papers, straighten supplies, and even remove items that don’t belong. It allows you to wipe down the surface and start the next day with a clean slate.
Clearing off your desk at the end of every day is a habit that not only make your home cleaner, it will change your productivity level as well. And increased productivity is something we’d all love, right?!
How does your desk or work area look right now?
