According to a segment on The Early Show, 1 in 7 home kitchens would fail a restaurant health inspection. If you think about it, that could really gross a person out. Instead though, disturbing news like this can just make us more informed home managers. We all want to take care of our family and keep them healthy, so let’s take this knowledge and do something about it!
The most bacterial laden spots in your kitchen are:
- Anywhere You Touch (faucet, refrigerator handles, stove handles)
- Dish Sponges (we’ve covered how to eliminate bacteria on the kitchen sponge.)
- Cutting Boards (wood cutting boards can have 200 times more fecal bacteria than a toilet seat, so plastic is better than wood. Clean by using a high-heat dishwasher and/or bleach.)
- Wood Countertops (use bleach to clean the surface if you have wood countertops. Stainless steel is a better countertop choice. You can find out how to clean granite countertops here.)
